Why Location Is the First Thing to Check
When you're picking a Minecraft host, RAM and CPU specs get most of the attention — but for players, the thing they actually feel every second they play is ping. A server with great hardware sitting on the other side of the world can still feel laggy, because the data has to physically travel further.
What Determines Ping
Ping is largely a function of distance and network routing. A player in Delhi connecting to a server physically located in the US East Coast has to cross an ocean and multiple network hops — even with a good internet connection, that trip typically adds well over 200ms of round-trip latency. Connecting to a server hosted within India, on the other hand, keeps that trip short.
This matters more for some kinds of gameplay than others. Building and slow-paced survival can tolerate higher ping without much impact. PvP, redstone timing, and anything requiring split-second reactions gets noticeably worse as latency climbs.
What This Means If Your Players Are in India
If most of your community is playing from India, hosting on a US-based server means everyone pays a latency tax on every action, all the time — regardless of how strong the underlying hardware is.
