Before You Buy — Check These First
VPS providers all look similar on a pricing page. A few questions separate the ones worth using from the ones that'll cause problems six months in.
1. Are the resources dedicated or oversold?
Cheap VPS plans sometimes oversell CPU and RAM across too many customers on the same physical host. Ask directly whether allocation is dedicated or shared best-effort.
2. Where is the server actually located?
"India" on a marketing page doesn't always mean the server is physically in India — sometimes it just means the provider has a presence or reseller in the country. If low latency for Indian users matters to you, confirm the actual datacenter location.
3. What's the real renewal price?
Many providers advertise a headline price that only applies with a long upfront commitment (2-4 years), with a much higher renewal rate afterward. Check the actual month-to-month or renewal cost before comparing prices across providers.
4. Is bandwidth actually unmetered, or capped with a "fair use" catch?
Some plans list "unlimited bandwidth" but throttle speed after a certain usage threshold. Ask what happens if you go over.
5. How do you actually reach support?
Ticket-only support with multi-day response times can be a real problem when a server goes down. Check whether the provider offers a faster channel like live chat or Discord for urgent issues.
